But Hold Fast What You Have Till I Come
By Pastor Tony Butler
That was Christ’s word to the Thyatira Church in the Book of Revelation. Though many loved the Lord, and were faithful to Christ, they had allowed a cancer of moral evil to exist that should not have been tolerated. They did not take a stand, and censure the false teaching, nor did they deal with the sexual immorality and idolatry. They considered it prudent to maintain a peaceful coexistence that adhered to the philosophy that says, "Personally, I’m’ against it, but if I speak out it will cause trouble, or make me too involved." As a result, they had lost much of their impact on the community, and lost much blessing of the Lord. The Scripture asks the question, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The answer is not to let the foundations be destroyed. It was in the Thyatira Church’s power to stop the problem. They had to move beyond the fear of man, and entrench themselves in obedience to Jesus Christ, and take a stand.
The same is true concerning our country. Founded on Christian principles, America became a strong, powerful nation, blessed of God with a strong morality base. The Ten Commandments were etched into stone in the Supreme Court, as well as other Federal buildings. Scripture abounds in many buildings and memorials in Washington D.C. A casual observer will notice immediately the spiritual connection the founding fathers placed in government. They knew no government can be just and prosper, unless it was built on the foundation of truth. Without the absolutes of God, which, are eternal and never-changing, man is reduced to mere human opinion, called humanism. Truth becomes existential and relative, resulting in the decay of society. Because nothing is absolute, right and wrong is determined by the individual. The lie of humanism can only end with anarchy and destruction.
Today, every attempt is being made to rid God out of our land, lives, and government. One of the chief vehicles that Satan is using to accomplish this is the ACLU. Even as I write, they are preparing to go to the Alabama State Supreme Court to force Judge Roy Moore of Gadsden, Alabama, to remove the Ten Commandments from his courtroom, and to force him to cease from beginning his court with prayer. If they win, it will have a significant impact on all our lives.
There are things we can do to stop the eroding of the foundations. We will either act in holy resolve and do our part, or we will remain apathetically uninvolved. As a nation, we are exchanging the truth for a lie; therefore, judgment is racing toward our land. The Scripture says that “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17).
May the people of God hold on to what God has given them. We must hold up the light of the Truth, regardless of the cost. If the Truth of God is eradicated from government, it is only a matter of time that those who hold to the Truth of God will be eradicated from the land
