VI. Can a Christian be Inhabited by Demons?
Next - Arguments that say a Christian can't be Demonized
Much of the legitimacy of deliverance ministry stands or falls on whether or not a Christian can have a demon/demons inside his/her body. There are many godly teachers that deny that possibility. If they are correct, then the practice of commanding demons out of a Christian is completely false, and unbiblical. On the other hand, if these godly teachers are wrong, then many people who truly need help in this area will not be able to get it because it wouldn’t be recognized as demonic. Therefore it is my opinion that the matter must be considered carefully in the light of the Holy Scriptures.
I think it is fair to say personal experiences can also be legitimate as long as they don’t conflict with scripture and if the individuals are credible. I say this because as a Christian and a pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance I was delivered from demons that tormented me for over twenty years. Since my deliverance, God has used my wife and myself to help other Christians be set free from demonic bondage. I pray that the following information will be helpful to you in reaching a decision in this matter, or at least help you to be open-minded.

B. What is deliverance?
1. It is a healing

Note- The terms relating to demons, “ possessed with devils, possessed of devils, or possessed is found twelve times in the NT.
Nine times the greek form of “daimonizomai” is used. (Mt. 8:16; 8:28; 9:32; 12:22; Mk. 1:32; 5:15,16&18; Lk. 8;36)

demon-possessed.

Him, and those who had been demon-possessed.
1:32 ᾿Οψίας δὲ γενομένης, ὅτε ἔδυ ὁ ἥλιος, ἔφερον πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας καὶ τοὺς δαιμονιζομένους·
6. Mar 5:15 And they came to Jesus and saw him who had been demon-possessed, and had the legion, sitting and clothed and right-minded, the one who had the legion. And they were afraid.

7. Mar 5:16 And those who had seen told them how it happened to the one who had been demon-possessed, and about the pigs. …
Mar 5:16 καὶ διηγήσαντο αὐτοῖς οἱ ἰδόντες πῶς ἐγένετο τῷ δαιμονιζομένῳ καὶ περὶ τῶν χοίρων….
Marco 5:18 καὶ ἐμβαίνοντος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ πλοῖον παρεκάλει αὐτὸν ὁ δαιμονισθεὶς ἵνα μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ᾖ.
The Greek word “daimon” is a proper noun. In the Greek when you attach a verb form to the noun, the word is becomes a verbal noun. Thus “daimon” + “zomai” is formed. It means to vex, torment, or literally to demonize. This vexing or oppression is always seen in the scripture as coming from the inside of a person.
Two times the Greek word “echo” is used. (Acts 8:7; 16:16) The word means “to have” or “to hold”. It has the idea of having a firm hold on one so he can’t get loose. Neither term means to possess in the sense of ownership.
1. Act 8:7 For out of those having unclean spirits, many came out, crying with loud voice. And many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
8:7 πολλοὶ γὰρ τῶν ἐχόντων πνεύματα ἀκάθαρτα βοῶντα φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἐξήρχοντο, πολλοὶ δὲ
παραλελυμένοι καὶ χωλοὶ ἐθεραπεύθησαν,
divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by divining.
16:16 ᾿Εγένετο δὲ πορευομένων ἡμῶν εἰς προσευχὴν παιδίσκην τινὰ ἔχουσαν πνεῦμα
πύθωνος ἀπαντῆσαι ἡμῖν, ἥτις ἐργασίαν πολλὴν παρεῖχε τοῖς κυρίοις αὐτῆς μαντευομένη.
The words “ktema - κτῆμα” (Mk.10:22) and “huparchonta - ὑπάρχοντα” (Acts 4:32) are the primary words used for ownership. God is the only one who truly possesses all things. The bible makes it plain that, “earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof: (I Cor. 10:28) As Christians we have been bought with the blood of Jesus. We belong to God. No Christian can be possessed in the sense of ownership by Satan, but I believe he/she can be vexed or demonized. Even the most demonized unsaved person in the world is not owned by the devil, and can come to Jesus. (See Mk. 5:6)
Demonization is merely what takes place when a demon spirit or spirits enter into a human body. It is the vexing of a person from within. A demonized person isn’t the property of Satan but merely a person that is being held by demonic influences.
